George & Mary's Final Filmed Scene Revealed In New Young ...

A Young Sheldon season 7 set image confirms Lance Barber and Zoe Perry's last filmed scene as George and Mary. With only four episodes left until it officially ends, everything is starting to come together for The Big Bang Theory prequel. The next couple of double-headers are expected to deliver a satisfying conclusion not just to Sheldon's arc in Medford, Texas, but also to the Coopers' collective story.

As shared by director Alex Reid on his official Instagram account, Barber and Perry pose after they filmed their last couple scene as George and Mary in Young Sheldon. Check out the image below:

The image shows Barber and Perry in George and Mary's bedroom. Reid doesn't share, however, any additional context as to what the Young Sheldon season 7 scene is about. He also doesn't reveal when this sequence will air. However, considering the image, it's safe to say that it has something to do with Sheldon's parents talking about their family's future — a conversation that has been quite frequent in light of the changes going on in their household.

George & Mary's Scene May Contain Clues About The Coopers' Future

Young Sheldon will end with a special one-hour finale on May 16. It's unlikely, however, that the scene Barber and Perry filmed will be part of those last two episodes, for a few reasons. Firstly, the sequence has already been revealed in the Young Sheldon season 7 episode 11 and 12 trailer, where the pair appear to have finished a heart-to-heart talk. Based on what's known about their arc, Mary will be once again hit with baby fever, prompting George to go behind her back to get a vasectomy.

Secondly, it has already been confirmed that George's funeral will take place in Young Sheldon's penultimate episode. It doesn't seem like the writers will delay the Cooper patriarch's death towards the end of the outing since it will sabotage Young Sheldon's chances of a happy ending. This means George will likely die at the end of episode 12 or the very beginning of episode 13. Regardless, there's no time left for this scene to play out. It would be a disservice to the actors and their respective characters if their last scene together was rushed.

It's no secret that George and Mary's married life has been tumultuous in Young Sheldon. While the pair have always had some disagreements, which is common for married couples, their issues bubbled over a few times. At one point, George started questioning his life and admitted that he was desperately unhappy. However, recent episodes have shown how far they've come after they almost split up because of their respective borderline affairs. Seeing their final scene to be loving and happy is the ideal way to cap off their story, although it will make George's death more heartbreaking.

The Big Bang Theory suggested that his demise was unexpected, and considering what's known about the character's arc in the prequel, it's safe to say that it will be related to his health. Adult Sheldon and his mother complained about George's unhealthy habits, and while he doesn't drink as much as they said, he is far from healthy in Young Sheldon.

George has had two mini-heart attacks throughout Young Sheldon's run. He came out of each of them unscathed, but they set a precedent for a potential third emergency. Unfortunately, this time, he wouldn't be able to survive it. Whether any other external factors contribute to this is currently uncertain, but George having a secret vasectomy in light of Mary's unexpected baby fever could factor into this upcoming family tragedy. While the procedure is deemed safe and easy, it could still lead to unexpected complications for someone who has major health risks like Sheldon's dad.

The Future Will Be Extremely Difficult For Mary And The Coopers

Beyond George's funeral, which is set for the first half of the one-hour Young Sheldon finale, CBS won't have the opportunity to tackle the family's collective future. Georgie and Mandy's spinoff, titled Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage won't feature any other Cooper as a series regular, and it's unlikely that the sequel will spend a substantial amount of time tackling the grief of Baby Cece.

Adult Georgie's The Big Bang Theory debut revealed some details about how the family moved on from the tragedy post-Young Sheldon. According to him, Mary was too grief-stricken to function after losing his husband while Missy returned to her rebellious ways. Meanwhile, Sheldon moved on by focusing on his studies at Caltech. The burden of taking care of the remaining Texas-based family fell on Georgie, which made founding Dr. Tire amid all the chaos in both of his families much more impressive.
