Barcelona put together their most impressive, efficient attacking performance of the season on Sunday, bashing Valencia at the Mestalla, 4-1, with new striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring his first goals for the club. The former Arsenal man scored twice in the first half as Xavi's men scored on their first four shots to leave the home side stunned. The victory comes at the perfect time ahead of a huge match at Napoli on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League. But not only does this win give them momentum, it puts them back into La Liga's top four with 14 games to go.

Aubameyang scored the opener 23 minutes in with a clinical strike before Frenkie de Jong made 2-0 just nine minutes later. After Aubameyang's second made it 3-0, Valencia were able to get one back from Carlos Soler before something simply stunning.

Young superstar Pedri scored Barca's fourth just after the hour mark on an absolutely ferocious shot from outside the box. It was also his first shot of the match. Take a look:

What Xavi's team pulled off in this one was deserved, but it was also quite massive in the context of their season and their recent history.

A look at the numbers
  • It was the team's biggest win of the season in terms of goal differential along with the 3-0 win over Levante in September.
  • Barca put 100 % of their shots on goal, way ahead of their second-highest mark of the season of 61.5 %.
  • It marked the fifth time in the league season where they've recorded three assists in a game.
  • Barca now have multiple goals in their last three games. They had the same amount in their previous nine games.
  • This was the first time Barca scored four goals at Mestalla since 1993 (H/T to MisterChip).

Next, Barca travel to face Napoli on Thursday in the Europa League knockout stage play-off round. The first leg last week ended 1-1. You can watch the match live on Paramount+.
