USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler reveals her list of 2024's best TV shows, including "Disclaimer," "We Are Lady Parts" and "Shogun."

"Squid Game" Season 3 may come sooner than you think.

The third season of the hit South Korean thriller on Netflix will be its last, the show's creator, director writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously confirmed.

Now, with the release of Season 2 (streaming now), we have some clues on where the final season will lead viewers. Hwang has been dropping some breadcrumbs, and there's a post-credit clip that offers more clues as to where the story is taking us.

Here's everything we know so far about "Squid Game" Season 3.

When is 'Squid Game' Season 3 coming out?

Netflix has already announced plans for the third and final season of "Squid Game." Season 3 of the series will drop in 2025 and will continue to focus on Seong Gi-hun's revenge on the creators of Squid Game.

Hwang told Variety earlier this month that a more specific release date will likely be announced "soon."

"I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year," Hwang told the outlet.

Where did Season 2 leave off?

Season 2 left off with a bang, with brutal violence, shocking deaths and an abrupt cliffhanger.

Hwang and Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, broke down Season 2 and that stunning finale with USA TODAY last week (spoilers ahead at the link below!)

What happens in 'Squid Game' Season 3?

Following a Season 2 cliffhanger, viewers are eager to see what happens in Season 3.

In case you missed it, there were also post-credit scenes after the last episode of Season 2. "If you watch that clip, it's going to give you a slight hint as to where Season 3 might take you," Hwang told Variety.

The director has also hinted that the battle between Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, and Front Man will continue to be a worthy opponent in the third season.

"The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year," Hwang wrote in a letter to fans.

Hwang told USA TODAY that the third season will also bring the return of "VIPs," the wealthy spectators who enjoyed watching the poor peasants fight and die as they bet millions on the outcome, last seen in Season 1.

"You will get to see the VIPs in the third season," he said through a translator. "They're coming. They're on the way. Their chopper is flying over the island now."

How to watch 'Squid Game' Season 2

Seasons 1 and 2 of "Squid Game," and its reality competition spinoff, "Squid Game: The Challenge," stream exclusively on Netflix.
