The Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History opened in May of 1994 in Atlanta. It is the first public library in the Southeast to offer specialized reference and archival collections dedicated to the study and research of African American culture and history and of other peoples of African descent. The Auburn Avenue Research Library is celebrating its 30th anniversary since its opening. To commemorate this milestone, the Library commissioned artist Charly Palmer to create an original artwork that captures the essence of AARL’s rich heritage and significance. This artwork will be featured on a soon-to-be-released Special Edition Library Card.
