The oneworld Alliance has announced that it has opened its first continental European lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), further expanding the alliance’s lounge network globally after it had recently opened its first lounge in Seoul, South Korea.
Subtle nod to Amsterdam
According to the alliance’s statement, the lounge was opened in collaboration with ASPIRE, the lounge subsidiary of the ground services provider Swissport. The lounge itself is located in the non-Schengen departure area at AMS, offering customers 473 square meters (5,091 square feet) of space.
The lounge has a subtle nod to the city that it is located in, with tailor-made lighting pieces inspired by the spherical lights on many of the city’s iconic arched canal bridges. They are reflected in the shape of the entrance portal itself as well, while the city’s birds also act as a playful inspiration for designers. Individual bird silhouettes can be seen perched over the lounge’s bar, with one even blowing bubble gum.

According to Julio Rodriguez, the Chief Commercial Strategy Officer of the International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, and others, oneworld’s airlines operate over 200 flights per week from/to AMS. As such, launching the lounge at the airport will strengthen its presence at AMS while also benefitting IAG’s customers flying from the Dutch capital.
Data from the aviation analytics company Cirium showed that oneworld airlines have scheduled 737 one-way flights from AMS in February 2024. The most popular destination is London, with flights to Heathrow Airport (LHR), City Airport (LCY), and Gatwick Airport (LGW) being the top three served airports by the alliance’s members from AMS.
Meanwhile, Gerhard Girkinger, the Vice President (VP) of Customer Experience, Delivery, and Membership of oneworld, emphasized that the launch of the lounge at AMS has been a proud moment for everyone connected with the alliance. Girkinger noted that the lounge was opened shortly after the alliance’s first such facility opened at Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN).
“It’s also fantastic for our customers who enjoy premium benefits and luxury air travel when flying with one world member airlines. The new lounge at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, opened as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, provides a contemporary setting that caters for the diverse needs of one world customers.”
