Giroud thrives with Ibrahimovic competition: “It pushes me every day”
Olivier Giroud arrived at AC Milan ahead of the season and despite picking the No.9, it has been a decent adventure for the striker thus far. It’s not easy, though, given that he’s competing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
At the start of the season, Giroud was initially meant to get a lot of playing time as Ibrahimovic was recovering from a knee surgery. Then, however, the Frenchman got Covid-19 and also injured his back.
It wasn’t an easy start, in other words, but since then it has looked better for the former Chelsea man. He has bagged six goals as well as two assists in 20 appearances, and only 11 of those games were from start.
In an interview with Colinterview – Oh My Goal, Giroud spoke about the competition with Ibrahimovic. He made it clear that it’s only positive to have a player like the Swede in the team, both for himself and his teammates.
“I see it as a challenge, something that pushes me every day. It’s an opportunity to have him as my partner, to learn something more. He’s an example for many strikers and when I was young I loved him, both on the pitch and for his strong character, and for the fact that he’s demanding every day. It’s a healthy competition between us,” he stated.
