Sexual Harassment: Popular OTT Actor Jailed

South Korean actor O Yeong-su, known for his role in the acclaimed series ‘Squid Game’ on OTT (Netflix), has been convicted of sexual misconduct by a local court.

The charges stem from an incident in 2017, where the 79-year-old allegedly assaulted a woman.

Despite his Golden Globe win in 2022 for his performance in the series, he now faces a sentence of eight months in prison, suspended for two years. Additionally, he is mandated to undergo 40 hours of sexual violence education.

The court found the victim’s testimony credible, noting consistency and authenticity.

The incidents occurred during O Yeong-su’s stay in a rural area for a theatre performance.

‘Squid Game’, known for its dark portrayal of societal issues, garnered immense popularity on Netflix, showcasing South Korea’s growing influence in global entertainment.

Many in South Korea’s film industry — including actor Cho Jae-hyun and late filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk — have faced sexual assault allegations.
