Eddie Howe was not getting carried away with the excitement when he spoke to Sky Sports after the match.

"It was a tough game. We were good tactically, the intention was to be aggressive and sometimes when you have that intention, it doesn't work," he said. "We put pressure on them early in the game and we had to retreat at times, but we were always in the game."

He was then asked about taking Newcastle to Wembley for the second time in three seasons.

"The first Wembley appearance was brilliant, it was unexpected," he said. "But a club like this, we need to be there regularly. We need to feel that it's not a surprise, that we're there on merit. And we are this year, our run hasn't been easy. We've done the hard yards and now we've got an opportunity."
