Stray projectile hits Ubi block during New Year's Day fireworks display
SINGAPORE — A stray projectile hit the wall of a Housing Development Board (HDB) flat in Ubi during a New Year's Day fireworks display, cutting short the event, the Kembangan Chai Chee community Facebook page said on Saturday (Jan 1).
Ubi was one of 10 heartland sites across Singapore where fireworks were set off to ring in the new year.
"For everyone’s safety, our officers on site immediately instructed the fireworks display to be stopped," the post said. "We also visited the unit where the projectile had landed nearby, to make sure that the family was safe."
The family assured the officers that no one was hurt nor was there any damage to their home, as the projectile had only hit the outer facade wall near a window, the post added.
The Kembangan Chai Chee page said it is working closely with its vendor to ascertain what happened and how it can be prevented in future.
A video uploaded by another Facebook user on Saturday morning shows the moment the projectile hit the top floor of a HDB block, close to the window of a unit. The fireworks then stop soon after.
