How Manchester United beat Brentford in the Premier League tonight
“I think we were in control of the game for the most part – we had 65 per cent possession. There were still a few gaps defensively but overall this was the kind of performance we wanted to show to our supporters.
“Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata gave up some quality in midfield, plus Cristiano, and Bruno gave an improved performance. It was not so easy for them to take the ball off us. Anthony Elanga has a great mentality – he’s a good lad, he wants to get better. There is still room for improvement technically and tactically. But he wants to learn, that’s the good thing.
“I’m not happy with our results, especially in the last 4-5 weeks. We had good moments, and we were in three competitions when we beat West Ham [in January], but the Middlesbrough defeat was a big setback and then Atletico Madrid. In general, we just lacked consistency.
“It is obvious that quite a few players will leave the club, so there will be a need for some new, top-quality players. I strongly believe that if everyone works together we can raise the level and bring Manchester United back to where they should be. If we buy top-quality players in the next few transfer windows, I don't think it should take too long."
