Barcelona are back in action in 2022 with a tricky trip to Real Mallorca, as Xavi Hernandez looks to start the new year in positive fashion. The Catalans have looked better in LaLiga Santander of late, with a win over Elche followed by an away draw at Sevilla, and they will be aiming for three points on Sunday to launch their bid for a top four finish.

This is the start of our Mallorca vs Barcelona live blog, with updates from this LaLiga Santander fixture following on from here. As always, the entries nearest the top are the most recent ones.

FULL TIME

It's over! Barcelona seal a crucial three points in excruciating fashiong. Luuk de Jong's first half header was enough to separate the two sides, but Ter Stegen's heroics at the end were just as vital for the Catalans who close in on the top four.

Jaume Costa connects with a volley inside the box but Ter Stegen sticks out a right arm to save Barcelona in incredible fashion.

This time, Luuk de Jong finds the net. The striker leaps highest to head past the on-rushing Reina and gives Barcelona the lead just before the break.

Minute 42: Kang-in Lee has a go from distance

Chances have been few and far between for the hosts, which is why Lee attempted a shot on goal from a freekick. It fails to trouble Ter Stegen, however.

Minute 28: De Jong hits the post... twice!

A neat through ball finds Luuk de Jong who gets a toe to it but finds the post.

Then, in the next attack, De Jong tries a scissors kick but is denied by the bar! Incredible attempt from the tall striker.
