Actress Kim Sae Ron, who faced repercussions following a drunk driving incident, is preparing to resume her professional activities.

On April 17 KST, Kim Sae Ron is set to appear in the play 'Dongchimi'. This marks her return to acting following a hiatus prompted by the aforementioned incident.

On May 18, 2022, Kim Sae Ron was apprehended by law enforcement after causing multiple accidents, including collisions with a guardrail, tree, and transformer, near Hakdong intersection in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Subsequent testing revealed her blood alcohol level to be 0.2%, surpassing the legal limit of 0.08% for license revocation.

Expressing remorse, Kim Sae Ron stated, "I made a grave error while under the influence of alcohol. My actions resulted in harm to numerous individuals, including nearby merchants, residents, and those involved in restoration efforts. We should have exercised greater caution and responsibility, which we failed to do. I extend my heartfelt apologies." She further mentioned ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of the accident in collaboration with relevant parties and pledged to actively engage in resolving the matter.

During her period of reflection, questions arose regarding the sincerity of her apologies, especially in light of reports about birthday celebrations and her purported employment at a café, which later surfaced as contentious due to alleged misrepresentations. However, recent reports indicate that Kim Sae Ron is not employed at a café but instead is providing acting instruction to aspiring talents.

Kim Sae Ron's return to acting follows approximately three years since her appearance in the Drama Special in 2021 'The Palace' and about two years since her hiatus following the drunk driving incident. Although she participated in Netflix's 'Bloodhounds', most of her scenes were edited out due to the fallout from the controversy.

Her comeback project, 'Dongchimi', delves into the lives of a family comprising a pragmatic father, a sacrificial mother, and three siblings grappling with filial responsibilities amidst their interpersonal conflicts. Recognized for its poignant portrayal of familial dynamics, 'Dongchimi' has received accolades such as the Korea Creative Culture and Arts Awards and the National Assembly Awards of the Year. The play is scheduled to run from May 3 to 12 in Seoul.
