No place for toxic work culture at public hospitals, says Khairy

PUTRAJAYA: There must be no toxic work culture at public hospitals, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Work culture must have respect, support and empowerment not abusive and humiliation,” he said in his tweet on Friday (May 13).

The Health Minister said he went to Selayang Hospital and spoke to several housemen.

“Heard their experiences before they start their rounds at 6am. A lot of things were expressed to me.

“Some departments have a good work environment. Some can be improved,” he said.

Khairy said that he would announce the members of the task force later today.

“The task force will be given two months to look into the work culture in hospitals under the ministry and issues of bullying.

“They are to also come up with recommendations to improve the work culture,” he said.

Following a recent death of a houseman in Penang Hospital, Khairy said an independent task force is to be set up to investigate the case and alleged “bullying” culture.

Aside from the task force, the ministry’s integrity unit would also be investigating the five alleged “bully doctors” attached to the Penang Hospital.
