KAJANG: A downpour has caused flash floods in parts of Kajang.
The worst affected area was Taman Lembah Mewah, said Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) public relations head Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman.
“Water rose to knee level but it receded some 30 minutes later,” he said.
Heavy rains in Kajang started at about 4pm and continued for more than an hour.
MPKj councillor Ong Seng Peng said the drains along Jalan Semenyih had overflowed, which caused nearby areas including another housing area – Taman Zamrud – to flood briefly.
Messages and images about the flash floods were trending on social media such as Twitter.
“It’s scary to see the water flowing so swiftly,” said Shazlin Wahab, referring to a video of the water level.
Another person posted: “God speed, Kajang.”
Others voiced their anxiety that another flood was happening again.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a report at 5.19pm about flash floods at the Glen Court Apartment.
There was an overflow of water from a pond near the apartment, he said, adding that the water level was about 30cm.
Norazam said the floodwater had receded when a team from the department arrived at the location at 5.57pm.
