She was initially found dead in a car at a Washington state park on Monday, May 2, according to The Daily Beast.
Kailia’s family later told TMZ that the teen died by suicide. “Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life,” they said. "She won countless crowns and trophies after competing on the pageant circuit her entire life ... Her highly acclaimed talent as a contortionist had already led to professional touring job offers, and she had recently been selected to be a cheerleader at her high school next fall.”
Kailia, who attended Lynden High School, eventually wanted to study aviation in college and obtain her commercial pilot’s license, according to her bio on the Miss Teen Washington pageant website.
Kailia started on the pageant circuit when she was just three years old, Gatterman once said on Toddlers & Tiaras, and her special talent was being a contortionist. She starred in the TLC show beginning at age five.
Kailia competed at the Miss Teen Washington pageant in February, writing on Instagram that she was “thankful” for the experience.
