Apple Officially Launches iPhone 16e; Starts From RM2,999

Apple Officially Launches iPhone 16e Starts From RM2999
Apple has officially launched its latest entry-level smartphone, the iPhone 16e, which replaces the iPhone SE.

Apple has officially launched its latest entry-level smartphone, the iPhone 16e. Replacing the iPhone SE, the new model adopts a more modern design, featuring a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display and Face ID authentication.

The iPhone 16e borrows much of its design from the iPhone 14, making it the first entry-level iPhone with a full-screen display. However, unlike the newer iPhone models, it retains the notch instead of the Dynamic Island. The device features a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, replacing Apple’s long-standing Lightning connector. Unlike the more premium models, MagSafe charging is absent, with only Qi wireless charging support at up to 7.5W.

Internally, the iPhone 16e is powered by Apple’s A18 processor, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. However, it features a slightly reduced four-core GPU, compared to the five-core variant in the standard iPhone 16 models. In terms of storage, the iPhone 16e is available in three options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

Additionally, the iPhone 16e debuts Apple’s in-house cellular modem, the Apple C1, replacing Qualcomm’s modems found in previous iPhones. While the shift to an in-house modem enhances Apple’s control over its hardware, it does result in the loss of ultra-wideband 5G and Wi-Fi 7 support. However, the device remains compatible with sub-6GHz 5G and Wi-Fi 6, which are still widely used.

Apple Intelligence is a key feature of the iPhone 16e, bringing AI-driven tools such as generative text writing, Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, and ChatGPT integration. At its price point, this makes the device the most affordable smartphone from the company to support the feature.

Another highlight of the iPhone 16e is its camera system. Apple has integrated a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with a 2-in-1 sensor, allowing for 2x telephoto zoom without needing a separate lens. This marks a significant upgrade over the previous iPhone SE models, which were limited to a single standard-resolution camera.

In Malaysia, the pricing starts at RM2,999 for the base 128GB model, RM3,499 for the 256GB variant, and RM4,499 for the 512GB option. Pre-orders begin on February 21, 2025, with sales starting on February 28, 2025. The device is available in black and white finishes.
