An ounce of prevention this flu season
It’s often easier – and less expensive, painful and time-consuming – to do some very simple things to prevent an illness, as opposed to treating it once you have it. That’s a very timely thought right now. As fall moves into winter, the incidence of respiratory illnesses – such as influenza, RSV and COVID – rises considerably. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognizes that and puts considerable effort into convincing people to take basic precautions against such illnesses. This year, that includes a program it’s calling “Risk Less, Do More.” Dr. Donald Dumford, the medical director of infection prevention at the Cleveland Clinic in Akron, Ohio, joins Land Line Now to discuss the program and the problems it’s designed to prevent.
