I stood up for my team insists Osayi Samuel after fans punch-up
Super Eagles ace Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken for the first time about the drama during which he punched some fans who invaded the pitch and tried to attack Fenerbache players after a Turkish Super Lig clash.
Title-chasing Fenerbache recorded an important 3-2 win at Trabzonspor to keep up the pressure on league leaders Galatasaray.
“The fans attacked the team, some had weapons on them, I had to defend my team, it was self defence, that’s what happened,” he recalled the incident that could now cause him a length ban according to the rules and regulations of the league in Turkey.
“My teammates suffered cuts and bruises, some were really scared, several others also joined me to try to defend the team.”
He said it was most satisfying to record this important win.
“We found a way to win and avenge our only loss in the league to the same team after they beat us at our home in the first round,” he said.
Fenerbache now have 79 points, two points behind leaders Galatasaray with eight rounds of matches to the end of the season.
