Today's leak revealed little about what to expect, but the full announcement came with more details about how this long-awaited follow-up will breathe new life into the series. It's set to release for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S sometime later this year and follows a story that sees players traveling between the human world and the Digital World. You can read a summary of Digimon Story Time Stranger and check out its debut trailer below.

"Digimon Story Time Stranger is an RPG with monster-taming elements that explores the deep bond between humans and Digimon in an epic story that unravels the mystery of the world’s collapse," Bandai Namco explains. "Embark on an adventure that spans across the human world and Digital World, collecting and raising a diverse array of Digimon to fight in turn-based battles."

More details were revealed in a recent PlayStation.Blog post from the publisher. It says that players can expect turn-based combat that has been improved on from previous entries while featuring fan-favorite monsters and new creatures that have yet to make their video game debut. In the uncharted parts of the Digital World that Digimon Story Time Stranger explores, fans will encounter monsters living their "Digi-lives." They run shops, have homes, and can even open up the door to new quests.

As you might have guessed, Digimon can be collected and teamed up with for turn-based battles. Increasing your bond with your group of chosen monsters determines how they'll grow with you throughout the experience. Learning the ins and outs of your team won't just help secure victory, it can also help your team evolve in unique ways, too.

Bandai Namco hasn't pinned down a release date quite yet but tells fans to stay tuned for updates. You can catch up on everything announced during today's State of Play here.

ORIGINAL STORY Feb. 12 2025: A new Digimon video game titled Digimon Story Time Stranger appears to have leaked via GameStop ahead of tonight’s PlayStation State of Play presentation.

Gematsu spotted and shared listings for the mysterious project earlier today, publishing store links that will seemingly allow interested players to pre-order copies for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The GameStop pages come without any images or gameplay details related to the currently unannounced Digimon Story Time Stranger, though it may not be long before we hear something more official.

The leak arrives just hours before Sony’s latest State of Play presentation kicks off. Although no information about what the show will include has been revealed, the company has teased plans to include 40 minutes of content. With lots of room for reveals and the Digimon Story Time Stranger pre-order listings popping up mere hours ago, it wouldn’t be much of a shock to see the digital monster series make an appearance of some kind.

The Digimon Story series existed long before a potential new entry made its way to GameStop’s website, of course. Longtime fans will remember Bandai Namco's video game spin-off earning its name with the original Digimon Story for the Nintendo DS back in the mid-2000s. A laundry list of installments for a variety of platforms have released in the years since, with recent examples including 2015’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and 2017’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory. A Complete Edition bundled in both Cyber Sleuth titles in 2019.

Past entries have seen players warped into the world of Digimon to befriend and work with monsters in RPG gameplay that sees them battling others. However, outside of an announcement that saw franchise producer Kazumashu Habu teasing a new Story game in 2022, players have been left without a brand-new installment for years. Releases like Digimon Survive certainly helped fill the void in the time since, but it appears the wait for a real continuation will finally come to an end if Digimon Story Time Stranger officially rears its head soon.
