Patient returning from Congo with fever: hospitalized in Lucca and discharged, he recovered

“We have received a report from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) that a patient returning from Congo with flu-like symptoms potentially attributable to those described in recent days in the African country has been admitted to the San Luca Hospital in Lucca,” he declared in a note. Maria Rosaria Campitiello, head of the Department of Prevention, Research and Health Emergencies of the Ministry of Health.

"The person hospitalized since November 22 was discharged on December 3 because he had recovered. This morning the hospital in Lucca informed the Istituto Superiore di Sanità which is monitoring the situation in constant contact with the Ministry of Health".

Campitiello then concludes: "The ministry is proceeding with the necessary investigations and the samples taken will be promptly analysed by the Istituto Superiore della Sanità".
