Sarawak’s Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, was present at the event.

Speaking to reporters before the concert, Abdul Karim highlighted the significance of hosting such world-class events in Sarawak.

“There are many events planned for this year, as there were last year. We have received substantial funding from the state government to host these events.

“I would like to thank the agencies under the ministry for their hard work, including Sarawak Tourism Board, Museum Department, Business Events Sarawak, and other teams handling domestic and international promotions,” he said.

Abdul Karim expressed optimism for Sarawak’s tourism sector, noting an increase in visitors from Indonesia.

“Previously, our foreign visitors largely came from Brunei, with numbers ranging between 150,000 to 200,000 per month.

“But the interesting part now, we have another country, that is Indonesia, that seems to be looking at Sarawak,” he said.

He said that it is a good sign as it will boost Sarawak’s economy.

“These visitors are middle-class tourists coming to Sarawak for holidays, boosting our local economy. Probably today, some of them are here (at the concert).

“So that is a good sign. Those that are coming in from Jakarta, they are coming in from Pontianak, Sambas,” he said.

He also shared ambitious targets for Sarawak’s tourism industry.

“With such efforts, I am confident that in 2025, we will achieve our target of visitors.

“I cross my fingers that, because this year we are going to have our new airline also, that should be helping out to achieve our 5 million target for this year,” he added.
