A 65-year-old Denton man had $55,000 stolen from him after meeting an unknown woman on Facebook, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

The man met a woman on Facebook, and after messaging for some time, he agreed to put money in a Bitcoin wallet that she had access to as well. The man checked the Bitcoin wallet Wednesday and noticed the money was gone, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the fraud.

This is the third fraud case in Lancaster County that had a value over $50,000 in 2024.

On Jan. 26, a 74-year-old Lincoln man was defrauded of more than $1 million after communicating with an unknown woman from Chicago, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

And on Feb. 12, police said a 76-year-old Lincoln woman was contacted by someone impersonating a federal agent and told to hand over a gold bar valued at $66,984 at a Walmart parking lot.

"These cases are extremely hard to solve ... a lot of times the money is gone and in a different country before you even turn around," Houchin said.
