Lazio 1-0 Bayern Munich Post-Match Opta Facts

  • This is the 15th time that Bayern Munich have lost the first leg of a two-legged UEFA Champions League knockout tie. They have been eliminated on each of the last seven occasions they have done so, last overturning a first-leg deficit to progress in the 2014-15 quarter-final vs Porto.
  • Ciro Immobile, who has scored 11 goals in 13 UEFA Champions League home games, scored his 10th goal of the season in all competitions, meaning he has now hit double figures in all eight of his seasons with Lazio.
  • Lazio have won three consecutive home games in the UEFA Champions League for just a second time, previously doing so from March to September 2000. They have won three in a row on home soil while also keeping a clean sheet each time for the first time in the competition.
  • Bayern Munich have failed to score in two consecutive games in all competitions for the first time since May 2015, when they went three successive matches without a goal under Pep Guardiola.
  • This was Bayern Munich’s first defeat to an Italian side in the UEFA Champions League since March 2011 v Internazionale, ending a 12-game unbeaten run against such opponents (W10 D2).
  • Bayern Munich failed to record a single shot on target against Lazio, despite having 17 shots – the most by any side on record (from 2003-04) in a UEFA Champions League game without one being on target. Indeed, it was the first time Bayern didn’t have a shot on target in any match in any competition since their 2018-19 last 16 first leg against Liverpool.
  • Dayot Upamecano was the third player to be sent off on Valentine’s Day in the UEFA Champions League – and the second of those three to do so for Bayern, along with Benjamin Pavard v PSG in 2023 (also Roque Júnior for Milan vs PSG in 2001).
  • Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala made his 20th start in the UEFA Champions League, becoming just the seventh player to reach that total in the competition before turning 21, after Iker Casillas (31), Cesc Fàbregas (30), Jude Bellingham (26), Kylian Mbappé (25), Trent Alexander-Arnold (22), and Tomas Rosicky (21).
