Audi Q6 e-Tron Electric SUV Revealed, Coming to Australia

Audi Q6 eTron Electric SUV Revealed Coming to Australia
The first Audi with the state-of-the-art PPE architecture (developed with Porsche) the Q6 e-Tron is crucial to the electric future of Audi.

The Q6 e-tron is not merely another Audi SUV as it signals a new wave of electric cars under the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) scalable architecture as the German luxury brand attempts to overhaul its product range.

The PPE architecture, developed with Porsche, is crucial to that as it will underpin premium EVs within the Volkswagen Group with the first product being the new Porsche Macan which was unveiled recently.

Back to the Q6 e-tron and design-wise, it slots above the Q5 in terms of size but also has a sharper look to it with a healthy dose of swagger in those crisp proportions. While flanked by some typical Audi design details, the single-frame grille and the slimmer headlamps bring in an aggressive demeanour along with short overhangs and sharp creases.

Wider rear tyres and wraparound OLED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar further enhance the visual width of the vehicle. In terms of the dimensions, it has a length of 4,771mm, a width of 2,193mm (including mirrors), and a height of 1,702mm while the modular architecture ensures a long 2,899mm wheelbase too.

Inside, the dashboard design is not as sober as some of the current Audi SUVs with a generous helping of tech and even more screens being added.

It’s all about Audi’s philosophy of going for a more ‘digital’ look with the configurable 11.9-inch virtual cockpit along with a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen while even the passenger is not left out with a 10.9-inch screen. Elsewhere, physical buttons are reduced to just the volume knob but Audi has also limited the use of haptic feedback ones.

Other interior highlights include a digital key, an augmented reality Head-Up Display, a digital assistant with AI and a new Android Automotive OS for the infotainment system.

Like all new luxury cars, there’s a degree of sustainability being built in with recycled materials being used for some of the plastic components like the frunk plus fabric seats. There’s a lot of emphasis on luxury too with a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system plus a raft of driver assistance systems.

For now, Audi is going for maximum power as the Q6 e-tron gets a dual-motor layout with a newly developed lithium-ion battery consisting of 12 modules and 180 prismatic cells with a total capacity of 100 kWh. This means a range of more than 600km which is more than ample.

Power isn’t in short supply too with the ‘standard’ Q6 e-tron developing 380PS while the range-topping SQ6 produces more than 500bhp along with a naughty launch control function also added in. Of course, it also comes with 800-volt technology and a maximum charging capacity of 270 kW.

“Built on the new PPE platform, the Audi Q6 e-tron is the next technological leap in premium electric mobility for our customers,” said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG and that shows how significant this new SUV is for the brand with a lot riding on the shoulders of this car.

For Australia, the launch timeline has not been chalked out yet but we expect the SUV to rock up on our shores by the start of next year after its European market debut later this year.
