How does a single bacterium develop antibiotic resistance? - either by gene mutation (random change in base sequence of the gene) - receiving an antibiotic resistant gene through the plasmid of another bacterium How does an entire population of bacteria become antibiotic resistant? a) usage of antibiotics will kill of sensitive bacteria, and allow the resistant bacteria to survive b) the resistant bacteria survive and reproduce, passing down the genes to the next generation c) future generations of bacteria are also now antibiotic resistant.
