Boy pulls rare Lionel Messi card worth tens of thousands of dollars: 'I ...
ST. PETERS, Mo. (First Alert 4/Gray News) - Brad and Jett Meyer have been collecting sports cards for years, and they might’ve just discovered their most valuable addition.
Just before the new year, the father and son decided to stop by Restless Craft Breakers Sports and Gaming in St. Peters, Missouri, to buy a case of Topps Major League Soccer cards.
When they got home and opened it up, they were left speechless by what they discovered.
“I froze and sat it down. I didn’t wanna mess it up,” said Jett.
His father, Brad Meyer, recalled, “He just stepped back and put his hands up. We just high-fived and sat there in shock.”
It was a 2023 Topps Chrome Inter Miami Lionel Messi SuperFractor card, estimated to be worth around $50,000. It’s the only one in the entire world and possibly the rarest MLS card ever made.
“We actually pulled another Messi card out of five before that, and I was so excited about that. I’ve never dreamed in a million years that this would come down the pipe,” Brad Meyer said.
RCB Sports and Gaming owner Dune Trull says this card is one of the rarest his shop has ever seen.
“We came to Missouri in 2000 and this, all of this, happened with $5,000. Everything that we’ve done now started with $5,000. We’ve been able to build it and here we are now. We run this shop by faith,” Trull said.
Brad Meyer told KMOV they have received several offers for the card already, some of them around $30,000.
