G-Dragon's 'Youth is Flower' artwork to go up for auction, starting bid at 30 million won (~$23000 USD)
Some of G-Dragon's artwork is going up for auction.
Seoul Auction Gangnam Center will hold a contemporary art auction on March 29 KST, and G-Dragon's piece titled 'Youth is Flower' is among the attention-grabbing artworks for sale.
Created in 2017, the artwork features G-Dragon's signature daisy flower and 'YOUTH IS FLOWER' drawn out in a highly stylized fashion. It was done with markers and spray paint on a metal panel, with G-Dragon's signature in the bottom-right corner. This marks the first time one of G-Dragon's personally-created fine art pieces has been put up for auction.
According to Seoul Auction, the starting bid is 30 million won (approximately $25,000), justifying the price by saying, "The price was determined considering the global recognition of artist Kwon Ji Yong (G-Dragon), the fact that his artworks have not been traded previously, and the timing of introducing them to the market."
Meanwhile, G-Dragon has shown interest in art for a long time. He drew inspiration from Francis Bacon's works to compose BIGBANG's song "BAE BAE," and in 2019, he was named one of the '50 Notable Collectors' by the prestigious U.S. art magazine Artnews.
