Plenitude League champions for the 31st time
Barça are Plenitude League champions for 2023/24 after Saturday's win over Franklin Granollers. The title is the 31st for the handball section at FC Barcelona and the 14th in a row. The trophy is the fourth of the season for Carlos Ortega's team after victories in the Catalan Super Cup, the Iberian Super Cup and the Copa de España.
Bidasoa Irun, biggest rivals
Barça have been by far the most consistent team in the league picking 49 of a possible 50 points to claim the title with five games still to play. The only points dropped came in the first game of the league season when they were held 26-26 by Bidasoa Irun.
The Basque club were Barça's main rivals for the league title after an impressive run of 27 points from a possible 30 left them just two points behind the blaugranes at the half way point,
However, Barça 30-23 win at home over Irun turned out to be a crucial victory and key to the team's title challenge.
Two more trophies on the horizon
The 31st league title in the handball section's history is also the 14th in a row for Barça. Carlos Ortega's team still have objectives to fulfil this season with a quarter-final tie of the Champions League coming up at the end of April and beginning of May against Paris Saint-Germain and prior to that, the Copa del Rey.
