World No. 9 HS Prannoy has won only one of his last five matches across all competitions

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy recently took to social media and uploaded a video clip where he showed a glimpse of his preparation for the upcoming Thomas Cup.

The 2024 Thomas Cup is scheduled to take place from July 27 to May 5. Indian shuttlers gave a historic performance in the last edition of the Thomas Cup as they lifted the prestigious silverware for the first time in the tournament’s 73-year-long history. Consequently, the defending champions are fully prepared to display their on-court prowess with full strength.

WR-9 HS Prannoy recently uploaded a video of his preparation on Instagram. He captioned the post: “Bringing the heat, one practice session at a time ‘coz we have got a cup to defend. It’s on”.

The Indian team has been drawn in Group C of the Thomas Cup alongside England, Thailand, and Indonesia. India will play their first match against Thailand on Saturday, April 27. Afterwards, they will face England on April 29, Monday, and Indonesia on May 1, Wednesday.

The Indian team includes HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George in the singles action, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, MR Arjun, Dhruv Kapila, and Sai Pratheek are in doubles.

Talking about HS Prannoy, the Indian shuttler has been out of form recently. The 31-year-old was eliminated in the first round of the All England Badminton Championships, French Open and the Indonesia Masters. Moreover, he also failed to reach the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championship after being defeated by North Korea’s Lin Chun-Yi in the round of 16.

In the last couple of months, Prannoy has also fallen in the pecking order, as he was WR7 in March, and currently, he’s in the ninth spot in the BWF men’s singles rankings.
