Australia in good shape at 2-172 and just 72 runs scored in that session. No wickets fell but Pakistan really tightened up their attack and made Khawaja and Smith work extremely hard for their runs. The pitch has started to slow and everything looked like a slog for the Australian duo. They will want to really take back the initiative once they return for the final session, with Khawaja (86) closing in on a century and Smith (40) within reach of his half century.
This has ground to a glacial pace as the Pakistan seamers really tighten their lines and pour on the pressure. Runs at a premium now as Khawaja and Smith wait for a rare bad delivery to promote the scoreboard.
No hurry here or sense of urgency from Khawaja as he navigates a testing spell of bowling from Faheem. Khawaja and Smith are just ticking things over here as Pakistan turn to their slow bowlers to see if they can break what is now the key partnership. This pair have scored 48 as a duo and are looking rock solid as the tourists close in on the 150 mark with two in the sheds.
It’s been a while Smith was the man for Australia. It’s been a dozen innings since his most-recent Test century.
Finds the boundary there with a delightful shot past the only slip, just slides that off the face from the bowling of Shaheen and moves to 24. Khawaja has been the story again so far but Smith looks like he’s in a mood to me.
