ASUS reveals new Vivobook S 15 OLED version with Qualcomm Snapdragon X chipset before May 20 launch
It seems that ASUS is also jumping aboard the Snapdragon X series train. Officially, the company has not confirmed as much yet. With that being said, its latest press release has dropped various hints that this will be the case. On the one hand, it has announced that it will be hosting a 'virtual launch event' on May 20.
While nothing in of itself, May 20 is also when Microsoft is expected to announce consumer versions of the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10. To that end, ASUS has elaborated that its event will be a collaborative effort between itself, Microsoft and Qualcomm, during which it will host 'distinguished speakers' from both companies. On the other hand, ASUS appears to have revealed what laptop it will be showcasing on May 20, too.
In its press release, the company only describes the event as an opportunity to deliver its 'first new-era ASUS AI PC'. However, the title of its sole image teaser image implies that the 'AI PC' will be a successor to the current Vivobook S 16OLED. Specifically, ASUS has named the image 'S5507 PR announcement', with S5506 being the model number of the Vivobook S 15 OLED that currently utilises Intel Meteor Lake-H processors. Thus, it seems that ASUS intends to offer a 16-inch laptop with a Snapdragon X chipset, which would be larger than the Surface Laptop 6, Surface Pro 10, Inspiron 14 Plus, ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 or Yoga Slim 7 that are set to similar silicon.
