AMD Rumored To Equip 3D VCache On NextGen Ryzen APUs Threadripper CPUs

AMD's next-generation Ryzen APUs & Threadripper CPUs are rumored to come equipped with the latest 3D V-Cache innovations.

AMD is spreading the 3D V-Cache technology to more products apart from regular desktop CPUs, rumored for Ryzen APUs & Threadripper CPUs too

AMD has successfully unlocked the key to high gaming/productivity performance with the 3D V-Cache technology. While high productivity performance wasn't the case with earlier X3D chips, with the Ryzen 9000X3D chips, this has changed forever. It's now rumored that AMD is planning to expand its X3D footprint to workstations and mobile platforms.

Recently, there was a rumor about AMD preparing Threadripper processors with 3D V-Cache technology, and in the latest leak, we got some more insights. As reported at Chiphell Forums by zhangzhonghao, it's rumored that AMD is going to bring 3D V-Cache technology on the next-gen Threadripper CPUs & Ryzen APUs.

According to the leaker, the supply chain has confirmed that AMD is indeed preparing Threadripper processors with 3D V-Cache technology. But there is more! AMD is also expected to bring the X3D chips to the mobile platform for the mainstream market.

Today, I saw the news that the word Vcache appeared in the BIOS manual of ASUS's TRX motherboard, and then I went to ask the supply chain, and it was really going to come outIn addition, the next generation will start to stack 3D on the APU (used to strengthen the CPU and GPU), the technology and cost are already in place, but the current news is limited to notebooks, and it is used at the level of halo.

As it may appear from his comment, AMD might bring the 3D V-Cache technology to "Strix Halo", but in the replies, he confirmed that it's the successor to Strix Halo. AMD Strix Halo won't be coming with a 3D V-Cache layout, and we haven't seen any solid leaks or even rumors about such news. Therefore, it's safe to assume that it's not yet time for X3D mobile chips.

However, the next-gen AMD Threadripper CPUs, aka 9000WX/X series, are supposed to receive an extra L3 cache via all the available CCDs. Unlike the desktop processors where only one CCD gets the 3D V-Cache, Threadripper CPUs are expected to bring a lot of extra L3 cache through multiple CCDs, which can also be disabled as per the Pro WS sTR5 Series BIOS Manual. AMD's EPYC CPUs already feature this functionality, integrating 3D V-Cache on multiple CCDs rather than one. The chips with this design will be very expensive.

We are excited to see how much performance change these processors will bring to the table, particularly the mobile ones, as AMD is now deploying the cache underneath the CCD, which allows better contact of cores with IHS, resulting in higher clock speeds.
