Indonesia Sports Minister Discusses Partnership with Saudi Arabia's ...

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo discussed a sports partnership with the Saudi Arabian football club, Al Nassr.

This visit to the Al Nassr Sports Club is one of Menpora’s follow-ups regarding the cooperation discussed in October 2023. The discussion was carried out in the presence of President Joko Widodo and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud.

"We discussed the potential for collaboration, including holding a friendly match in Indonesia. Data shows that there is a significant number of Al Nassr supporters in Indonesia," said Minister Dito as quoted from an official statement on Tuesday.

During his visit, Menpora Dito was welcomed by the CEO of Al Nassr Club Co, Guido Fienga. Guido Fienga also mentioned that he expected Indonesia’s support in developing badminton. 

"Mr. Fienga also said that the Al Nassr Sports Club is focused on Olympic sports, one of which is badminton. He hopes that (Indonesia) can help (Saudi Arabia) to develop their badminton sports. He understands that Indonesia has a brilliant record in the badminton sports," he said.

Meanwhile, Menpora Dito explained that he discussed the potential of young players in Indonesian football during the meeting. The minister hoped that Al Nassr would consider the opportunity to send talent scouts who can explore potential players from Indonesia to take part in the club currently being defended by Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I told Mr. Fienga that Indonesia has many talented young footballers. The achievements of our U-23 National Team are proof of this," he said.
