Ajith comes from a non-filmy background and made his debut as a hero in Amaravathi, which released in 1993. The same year, he made his Telugu debut with Prema Pusthakam. However, Ajith then decided to concentrate on his career in Kollywood and went on to play lead roles in several hit films, including Pavithra, Aasai, Kadhal Kottai, Ullasam, Kaadhal Mannan, among others.

It was Vaalee in 1999 that catapulted Ajith to prominence. Some of the blockbuster films in his career include Kandukondein Kandukondein, Dheena, Citizen, Billa, Mankatha, Yennai Arindhaal, Veeram and Viswasam. The actor was last seen in Valimai, directed by H Vinoth. Fondly called Thala by his fans, Ajith has a loyal fan base across the country. Today, he is one of the leading heroes in the Tamil film industry.
